David: What is China's pharmaceutical industry like?

中國的醫(yī)藥業(yè)怎么樣?

You: In the past fifty years, China's pharmaceuticalindustry has grown from nothing into a boomingindustry. When the PRC was established in 1949,China's basic pharmaceutical industries were veryweak.

在過去的50年里，中國的醫(yī)藥業(yè)實現(xiàn)了從低潮到繁榮的轉(zhuǎn)變。盡管1949年建國時，中國的醫(yī)藥業(yè)還都十分薄弱。

David: The entire pharmaceutical industry?

你是在說整個醫(yī)藥行業(yè)嗎?

You: Yes, the entire pharmaceutical industry was quite weak at the 1950s.

對。50年代時，醫(yī)藥業(yè)不大景氣。

David: So in the last 50 years it has developed.

所以，你認為這些發(fā)展都要歸功于近50年。

You: Yes, and now China has achieved an important position in the world market as a supplierof raw materials for pharmaceuticals.

對。中國的藥品原料出口已經(jīng)在世界上占有很重要的地位。

David: What do you mean?

怎么講?

You: I mean that many multi national companies depend on China for raw materials, and Chinahas cornered about 30% of the market share for pharmaceutical chemicals.

中國是很多跨國公司的原料供應地，而且它的化學藥品在世界市場上的份額達30%之多。

David: It seems like in the past 50 years China's pharmaceutical market has opened to theworld.

好像中國的醫(yī)藥市場在過去的50年里一直都是開放的，是嗎?

You: Not exactly. In the first thirty years, China's economy was not open to Western countries.But since the 1980's, in the last twenty years, China's international trade has taken off.

是這樣的。最初的30年里，步伐比較緩慢;改革開放近20年以來，發(fā)展越來越快。
