[00:11.09]Pompeii:The city that became a time capsule
[00:16.76]Around the end of the fitst century AD,
[00:19.85]a Roman writer called pliny wrote about
[00:22.15]a devastating volcanic eruption,
[00:24.94]that he had withnessed as a young man.
[00:27.86]The eruptin had occurred on August 24th,79AD
[00:32.12]and it was of Mount Vesuvius in Italy.
[00:36.04]Pliny described a cloud coming down
[00:38.17]the mountain, blocking out the sun and
[00:40.60]burying everything in its path,
[00:42.98]including whole villages and towns.
[00:46.72]The tragedy had left a deep impression on Pliny
[00:49.44]who had lost an uncle in the event .
[00:52.51]Yet,over the centuries,
[00:54.41]the people who disappeared under the ashes
[00:56.34]of Mount Vesuvius were gradually forgotten
[00:58.76]by the world,
[01:00.37]and the locations of the buried towns and
[01:02.23]villages were lost.
[01:05.38]However,more than 1,600 years later,
[01:09.12]some archaeologists,started uncovering the
[01:11.74]lost town that were buried under the ashes of
