名校勵志英語演講 第87期:如何實(shí)現(xiàn)你的夢想
感謝威利校長，感謝在座的各位朋友、各位嘉賓以及我們今天最重要的主角——威斯康辛大學(xué)2003屆畢業(yè)生們。
Before I start my remarks, I'd like everyone just to do something for me. Very simply — so everyone can kind of just get to know everyone else — on the count of three, I'd like everyone to turn around and shake the hand of the person sitting right behind you. One, two, three —right now, everybody, please do that.
在我正式講話以前，我想讓每個人先做一件小事，一件非常簡單的事，以便使你們能認(rèn)識其他一些人——當(dāng)我數(shù)到三時，我希望每個人都轉(zhuǎn)過身與坐在你后面的人握握手——一、二、三，現(xiàn)在，請按我說的做。
So, I guess you still have a few things to learn.

My parents cried when I left for California. Not because I was leaving, (but) rather, I think,because they were afraid I'd be coming back. Not one teacher I ever had in grade school, highschool or college would've believed that there was even the slightest chance that one day I would be asked to give the commencement address at a major university.
當(dāng)我動身前往加利福利亞州的時候，我的父母哭了。我想，他們哭不是因?yàn)槲乙x開了，反而是怕我將會折回。從小學(xué)到高中再到大學(xué)的所有老師沒有一個會想到我能有機(jī)會被一所重點(diǎn)大學(xué)邀請發(fā)表畢業(yè)演講。
Many, given the opportunity, would've bet large sums of money against it, putting up their homes and children as collateral. Actually, I really like the idea of that, not because I'm vindictive — although in a few minutes I'm going to read the names of all the people in my life who never thought I would amount to anything — but because life should be unpredictable.And I'm very grateful that I never wasted any time trying to become somebody else's image of what I should be.
如果有機(jī)會的話，許多人都會下很大賭注，押大把的錢，甚至以自己的家庭和孩子為抵押。實(shí)際上，我很欣賞那種想法，不是因?yàn)槲倚膽殉鸷?mdash;—雖然在幾分鐘后我將說出一些人名，這些人從不認(rèn)為我會做成什么事——而是因?yàn)樯铍y以預(yù)測。我也非常欣慰，因?yàn)槲覜]有浪費(fèi)時間去變成別人認(rèn)為我應(yīng)該成為的樣子。
