[00:00.86]Another endangered species, [00:02.83]the Yangtze Dolphin,is China's only fresh-water [00:06.53]dolphin and is sometimes called' the panda [00:09.35]of the Yangtze River'because it is so rare. [00:13.11]its numbers are decreasing for several resons [00:15.96]including the pollution of the river [00:18.11]and the fact that they are often caught [00:20.11]and killed in fishermen's nets. [00:22.51]Hunting in the past also played a role [00:24.97]in rapidly reducing numbers. [00:27.51]Education programmes have been set up [00:30.26]but much more needs to be done [00:32.20]to protect these animals. [00:34.71]The tiger is a species under severe threat. [00:37.94]In the 1950's, [00:39.43]there were eight sub-species of tiger, [00:42.25]but three are now extinct. [00:44.71]All five remaining species are endangered [00:47.54]and although they are protected, [00:49.38]the total number of tigers worldwide [00:51.95]has dropped to 5,000. [00:53.76]Why is this?Tigers are killed by hunters [00:57.40]because it is falsely believed [00:59.09]that parts of the tiger's body [01:00.78]are good for people's health. [01:02.91]Another reason for numbers have decreased [01:05.10]is the loss of the tiger's natural habitat. [01:08.06]To save these beautiful animals, [01:09.97]we need to stop illegal hunting [01:12.29]and extend conservation programmes. [01:12.29]
