Round Two of the World Cup Finals has finished and we now enter the quarter-finals. Sadly, there are only eight games left. The eight teams through to the quarters all finished top in the group stages – a first for the World Cup. Most of the last eight games had football fans worldwide on the edge of their seats. The drama and excitement has remained at a very high level. The results left some supporters partying into the night and others left to drown their sorrows. The line-up for the quarter-finals gives us a better idea of who could be eventual winners, and there still could be a few big surprises.
Brazil-Chile was the first of the knockout games and went down to the wire. The underdogs Chile took the hosts to a nail-biting penalty shootout, which the hosts won when Chile's final kick hit the post. Things were a little easier for Colombia as they eased past Uruguay 2-0. France, Holland and Argentina needed very late goals to get past Mexico, Nigeria and Switzerland. Costa Rica continued to light up the competition with a dramatic penalty shootout win over Greece. Algeria nearly caused an upset in their 2-1 defeat to Germany. USA hopes ended with a thrilling 2-1 loss to Belgium.
