1.prom
在美國(guó)口語中可以表示學(xué)校的班級(jí)舞會(huì)。
eg:On the night of the prom the seniors were on a cloud. 舉行學(xué)生舞會(huì)的晚上,四年級(jí)學(xué)生都興高采列。
2.invite
invite sb to some place邀請(qǐng)某人去...
eg:Jake invites me to his house this Friday.
invite還有名詞性質(zhì),解釋為“邀請(qǐng)函”。
eg:He has got an invite to the fashion show.
invite還有招致,引起的意思。
His carelessness invited this bad result.
3.go with
a.伴隨
Happiness doesn't necessarily go with money.
b.與...相配
Do you think this hat would go with my new dress?
c.與...約會(huì)
He goes with the girl every week.
學(xué)生們?cè)谛瞧诹砩弦⒓右粋€(gè)舞會(huì)。
[誤] The students are going to a dance party on Saturday night.
[正] The students are going to a dance on Saturday night.
Notice:舞會(huì)應(yīng)該說dancing party,不要說dance party,但一般只說dance也就夠了。
開舞會(huì)就說give a dance,
去參加舞會(huì)就說go to a dance。
那旅館每晚舉行舞會(huì):At the hotel dances are held nightly.
我第一次遇見她是在一個(gè)舞會(huì)上:She and I first met at a dance.
他們請(qǐng)我參加舞會(huì):They asked me to a dance.
規(guī)模較大的舞會(huì),英語又可說ball,是從拉丁文來的。
