1 pass the time
關(guān)于pass,時(shí)間過得特別快可以說“Time passes so quickly”,而打發(fā)時(shí)間可以說pass the time。
When Paula was ill, I took her some magazines to help her pass the time.
2 no time to lose
Come on, there's no time to lose, we have to get home before John finds out.
還可以說,time is of the essence。
3 have time
I don't know how you find time to do all the things you do.
4 have time on your side
我們知道,have someone on your side是指有人是跟你站在同一邊的,也就是被支持的意思,所以have time on your side表示時(shí)間是跟你站在同一邊,表示(某人)有充裕的時(shí)間。也可以說time is on sb's side。另外,have time on your hands等于to have nothing to do,意思是無(wú)事可做。
5 two-time
I ended the relationship when I found out he was two-timing me.
6 be watching the clock
等于have/keep your eye on the clock,形容因厭煩或急于離開而總是看表。
I had a train to catch, so I was watching the clock all through the meeting.
7 call it a day
I'm getting a bit tired now - let's call it a day.
8 in this day and age
替代“at the present time”,意思是如今,當(dāng)前,當(dāng)今。
You can't afford to run businesses inefficiently in this day and age.
9 shelf life
These days many marriages have a fairly short shelf life.
10 in due course
You will receive notification of the results in due course.
