我想說 在特斯拉
we've never spent any money on advertising
我們從來不花錢做廣告
We put all of the money into R&D andmanufacturing and design

to try to make the car as good as possible

And I think that's the way to go
我認(rèn)為 公司就該這樣
For any given company, just keep thinking about

are these efforts that people are spending
人們花這么多精力做的事
are they resulting in a better product or service
是否能夠讓產(chǎn)品或服務(wù)變得更好
if they're not, stop those efforts
如果不能 停止這些嘗試
And then the final thing is

don't just follow the trends
不要隨大流
You may have heard me say
我經(jīng)常說
it's good to think in terms of the physics approach from first principles
這里可以類比從基本原理出發(fā)的物理方法
which is
也就是說
rather than reasoning by analogy
不要人云亦云
you boil things down to the most fundamental truths you can imagine
你應(yīng)當(dāng)將事物歸結(jié)到最根本的真理上
and you reason up from there
從根本出發(fā)進(jìn)行推理
This is a good way to figure out if something really make sense
這能讓你很好地判斷 某個(gè)想法是否真的行得通
or it's just whatever somebody else is doing
而不只是別人說可行 那就可行
It is hard to think that way. You can't think that way about everything
當(dāng)然 這很難 你不能什么事情都這樣考慮
It takes a lot of effort, but
這需要很多精力 不過
if you're trying to do something new, it's the best way to think
在創(chuàng)新的時(shí)候 這無疑是最好的思維方式
And that framework was developed by physicists

to figure out counterintuitive things

like quantum mechanics

It's really a powerful method

And so that's, and then I think there's a final thing I will encourage you to do

Now is the time to take risk
趁著年輕 勇于冒險(xiǎn)
You don't have kids

Your obligation... oh, sorry
你們的責(zé)任… 哦 抱歉
Probably not, of course
也許有人有孩子
but as you get older, your obligations increase
不過隨著年齡的增長 責(zé)任也會(huì)隨之增長
And once you have a family
有了家庭之后再去冒險(xiǎn)
you start taking not just for yourself but for your family as well
承擔(dān)風(fēng)險(xiǎn)的就不是你一個(gè)人 而是你全家
It gets much harder to do things that might not work out
要去冒險(xiǎn)做一些可能成不了的事 難度可能會(huì)更大
So now it's the time to do that before you have those obligations
在沒有這些責(zé)任之前 做這樣的事負(fù)擔(dān)會(huì)比較小
So I want to encourage you to take risks and to do something bold
我鼓勵(lì)大家勇于冒險(xiǎn) 膽子放大一些
