簡介
In this lesson, we will learn how to use the article ‘an’ in your conversations.
本節(jié)課,我們將要學(xué)習(xí)在談話中怎樣使用’an’.
Explanation
解釋
Cris: “An” is an indefinite article. It is used to talk about countable nouns. ‘An’ is not used to talk about plurals or non-countable nouns. We use ‘an’ before vowels (a, e, i, o, u) and before vowel sounds.
克麗絲:’an’是不定冠詞。它用來限定可數(shù)名詞。’an’不會用來修飾復(fù)數(shù)和不可數(shù)名詞。我們在元音前或者是元音開始的字母前使用’an’。
Troy: Can I have an apple?
特洛伊:可以給我一個蘋果嗎?
Chris: Here ‘apple’ is a noun beginning with a vowel sound.
克麗絲:這里的蘋果是以元音開始的。
Troy: Bruce Springsteen is an American musician.
特洛伊:Bruce Springsteen是一名美國音樂家。
Chris: An indefinite article is used because he is part of a group of American musicians.
克麗絲:使用不定冠詞是因為他是美國音樂家中的一位。
Troy: My father in an architect.
特洛伊:我的爸爸是一名建筑師。
Chris: Since ‘architect’ begins with a vowel sound, we use the article ‘an.’
克麗絲:因為‘architect’是以元音為首字母的,所以我們冠詞用‘an.’
Troy: I live in a United States.
特洛伊:我住在一個美國。
Chris: This sentence is incorrect. We do not use indefinite articles with countries, states, or provinces, lakes, or mountains because they are unique.
克麗絲:這個句子是不正確的。在國家,省份,地區(qū),湖泊,山之前我們不使用不定冠詞,因為他們都是第一無二的。
Troy: I live in the United States.
特洛伊:我住在美國。
Chris: This is the correct sentence.
克麗絲:這是個正確的句子。
Troy: Cassie is an interpreter.
特洛伊:凱絲是一名口譯譯員。
Chris: In this example, Cassie belongs to a group of interpreters. We use ‘an’ because ‘interpreter’ begins with a vowel sound.
克麗絲:在這個例子里。凱絲是眾多口譯譯員中的一名。我們用‘an.’因為‘interpreter’首字母是元音。
Troy: Sam is an honest person.
特洛伊:山姆是一個誠實的人。
Chris: Here the adjective describing the noun begins with the consonant ‘h’. However, we use the article ‘an’ because the ‘h’ is silent, and we pronounce the vowel sound /?/.
克麗絲:這里修飾名詞的形容詞以福音字母’h’開始。但是,因為’h’不發(fā)音,所以我們冠詞使用‘an’。

凱特:只有一個蘋果嗎?你在減肥?
Lisa: No, I’m not. I just wasn’t very hungry.
麗莎:不,我沒有。我就是不太餓。
Katy: All right. In that case, you might feel hungry at least an hour before the lunch break.
凱特:好吧。如果這樣的話,在午飯前一個小時你就會餓了。
