So he crept into his mother's bedroom where she was still asleep,于是他爬進(jìn)他媽媽的臥室，當(dāng)時(shí)她還在睡著。

climbed the lamp cord to her bureau, and pulled a strand of Mrs.Little's hair from her comb.

他順著燈繩爬上她的梳妝臺(tái)，從她的梳子上拽下了一根利特爾太太的頭發(fā)。

He rolled the hair up neatly and laid it in the handkerchief with the other things.

他把這根頭發(fā)和手絹里的其它東西放在一起。

Then he rolled everything up into a bundle and tied it onto one end of a wooden match.

又把手絹系成一個(gè)小包，放到一個(gè)火柴盒里。

With his gray felt hat cocked jauntily on one side of his head and his pack slungacross his shoulder, Stuart stole softly out of the house.

然后他把他的灰氈帽很帥地歪戴到頭上，將小手絹包神氣地挎到肩膀上，才躡手躡腳的離開了家。

"Good-by, beautiful home," he whispered.

“再—見，美麗的家，”他低語。

I wonder if I will ever see you again.

我不知道能否再看見你了。

Stuart stood uncertainly for a moment in the street in front of the house.

斯圖亞特心情復(fù)雜地在他家前面的那條街上站了一會(huì)兒。

The world was a big place in which to go looking for a lost bird.

這個(gè)世界太大了，想從中找到一只丟失的鳥兒真不容易。

North, south, east, or west--which way should he go?

往北，往南，往東還是往西——他該往什么方向走呢?

Stuart decided that he needed advice on such an important matter, so he started uptown to find his friend Dr. Carey, the surgeon-dentist, owner of the schooner Wasp.

斯圖亞特覺得這個(gè)重要的決定應(yīng)該在聽取別人的意見后才能作出，便往上城區(qū)去尋找他的朋友，那個(gè)黃蜂號(hào)的船主，凱里牙醫(yī)。

The doctor was glad to see Stuart.

醫(yī)生見到斯圖亞特很高興。

He took him right into his inner office where he was busy pulling a man's tooth.

他直接把他帶到他的辦公室里，他正在那里忙著給一個(gè)男人拔牙呢。

The man's name was Edward Clydesdale, and he had several wads of gauze in his cheek to hold his mouth open good and wide.

這個(gè)男人名叫愛德華.克萊德代勒，他的腮幫子附近塞了些棉球，這樣就使他的嘴可以很好的撐開了。

The tooth was a hard one to get out, and the Doctor let Stuart sit on his instrument tray so they could talk during the operation.

這顆牙非常難拔，所以醫(yī)生就讓斯圖亞特坐在他放拔牙工具的托盤上，這樣就可以一邊拔牙，一邊和他講話了。
