In bed we concocted our plans for the morrow. But tomy surprise and no small concern, Queequeg nowgave me to understand, that he had beendiligently consulting Yojo--the name of his blacklittle god-- and Yojo had told him two or three timesover, and strongly insisted upon it everyway, thatinstead of our going together among the whaling-fleet in harbor, and in concert selecting our craft;instead of this, I say, Yojo earnestly enjoined thatthe selection of the ship should rest wholly with me,inasmuch as Yojo purposed befriending us; and, inorder to do so, had already pitched upon a vessel, which, if left to myself, I, Ishmael, shouldinfallibly light upon, for all the world as though it had turned out by chance; and in that vesselI must immediately ship myself, for the present irrespective of Queequeg.

I have forgotten to mention that, in many things, Queequeg placed great confidence in theexcellence of Yojo's judgment and surprising forecast of things; and cherished Yojo withconsiderable esteem, as a rather good sort of god, who perhaps meant well enough upon thewhole, but in all cases did not succeed in his benevolent designs.Now, this plan of Queequeg'sor rather Yojo's, touching the selection of our craft; I did not like that plan at all. I had not alittle relied on Queequeg's sagacity to point out the whaler best fitted to carry us and ourfortunes securely. But as all my remonstrances produced no effect upon Queequeg, I wasobliged to acquiesce; and accordingly prepared to set about this business with a determinedrushing sort of energy and vigor, that should quickly settle that trifling little affair.

我忘記說(shuō)明一下,魁魁格有許多事情是非常相信約約那卓越的判斷和驚人的預(yù)示的;他對(duì)約約懷有極大的尊敬,把它當(dāng)做一種很有本事的神,這個(gè)神,也許一般說(shuō)來(lái)存心十分良善,不過(guò),他那仁慈的意圖也不是回回都應(yīng)驗(yàn)的。且說(shuō)這個(gè)魁魁格的。也可說(shuō)是約約的有關(guān)挑船的計(jì)劃,我根本就不喜歡。我倒很想靠魁魁格的聰明去指出一只最適宜于我們搭乘又穩(wěn)叫我們發(fā)財(cái)?shù)牟饿L船。但是,既然隨我怎樣規(guī)勸都無(wú)法使魁魁格回心轉(zhuǎn)意,我只得應(yīng)承下來(lái);因而以一種黽勉從事,趕緊去辦的決心來(lái)著手進(jìn)行,以便迅速了結(jié)這樁小事。
