究竟這些人物怎會(huì)這樣齊心一致地應(yīng)和著這老頭的忿怒，他們的心靈究竟是著了什么魔法,才弄得亞哈的仇恨有時(shí)簡(jiǎn)直也就是他們的仇恨;

the White Whale as much their insufferable foe as his;

那條白鯨好象也就是他們的不共戴天的宿敵,

how all this came to be--what the White Whale was to them, or how to their unconscious understandings, also, in some dim, unsuspected way, he might have seemed the gliding great demon of the seas of life,all this to explain, would be to dive deeper than Ishmael can go.

怎么會(huì)出現(xiàn)這種情況。他們對(duì)白鯨究竟是怎么看法,或者說(shuō),在他們那無(wú)意識(shí)的理解力中有點(diǎn)模糊而無(wú)可懷疑地認(rèn)為,白鯨也許就象是個(gè)蠕動(dòng)的海魔王,那又是怎么回事。要把這一切都解釋清楚,卻不是我這個(gè)以實(shí)瑪利所能再進(jìn)一步追索下去的。

一只被一艘裝有七十四門(mén)大炮的兵艦拖曳著的輕艇,怎能停住不動(dòng)呢?就我說(shuō)來(lái),我已經(jīng)決心要忘卻時(shí)間和空間了;不過(guò)當(dāng)大家早晚一窩蜂地去攻擊大鯨的時(shí)候,我卻只能在那個(gè)野物身上看到那種致命的兇相。
