The 1.5 mile-long island was a Christian pilgrimage(朝圣)site in the Middle Ages when three visits to Bardsey were said to equal one to Rome.It was owned by Lord Newborough until 1979,when the Bardsey Island Trust took over its Cliffs with seabirds and waters filled with dolphins and seals.
Anyone keen to apply the job will enjoy views across the Irish Sea from their two-bedroom cottage and a salary of£16,000.Caroline Williams, from the Bardsey Island Trust, said:“This is a unique opportunity to work on a remote and beautiful island .There are really two parts to the job.For six months of the year over the spring and summer the role is about looking after the visitors who come to the island and the cottages. Then for the other six months the role changes and it is more isolated, and the job is about keeping up the maintenance.”
Ms Williams added:“It is a challenging role but also a wonderful opportunity, and they will enjoy some of best views in Wales from their cottage. This job could be taken by an individual or a couple or family.”
Transport between the mainland and the island is operated by a local boatman.Boat services run frequently during the summer but boats only visit the island occasionally between October and March.Despite its isolated position me island does have internet access and uses solar panels to get enough electricity to power a fridge and lighting.
