發(fā)現(xiàn)
The word"discovery" literally means,
"發(fā)現(xiàn)"一詞,字面上是指,
uncovering something that's hidden from view.
揭開某種實(shí)現(xiàn)以外的隱藏的事物。
But what really happens is a change in the viewer.
不過其實(shí)是觀察者自身發(fā)生了變化。
The familiar offers comfort few can resist,
很少人能抗拒熟悉事物帶來的舒適,
and fewer still want to disturb.
愿意擾亂這種舒適的人更少。
But as relatively recent inventions such as the telescope and microscope have taught us,
然而,正如這些較為近期的發(fā)明望遠(yuǎn)鏡,顯微鏡揭示給我們的一樣,
the unknown has many layers.
未知事物具有多種層次。
Every truth has geological strata,
每個(gè)事實(shí)都有地質(zhì)層次。
and you can't have an orthodoxy without a heresy.
沒有異端就無所謂正統(tǒng)。
The moment a newborn opens its eyes, discovery begins.
新生兒睜開雙眼的那一刻起,發(fā)現(xiàn)也就開始了。
I learned this with a laugh one morning after delivering a calf.
