A block, "block," is the area between two streets. 街區(qū)(block)，是兩個(gè)街道之間的區(qū)域。
In most American cities, the blocks are square, so you have two streets on both sides and that whole thing is called a block. 在美國(guó)的大多數(shù)城市，街區(qū)都是方形的，所以兩邊都有兩條街，整體叫做一個(gè)街區(qū)。
The block that I live on is not square; it's a very strange, unusual shape, but most cities have blocks that are square. 我住的街區(qū)不是方形的，是一種非常奇怪、不尋常的形狀，但大多數(shù)城市里街區(qū)都是方形的。
We also use that expression when we are talking about distance. 談?wù)摼嚯x的時(shí)候，我們也用這個(gè)表達(dá)。
Someone may say, "How many blocks is it to the train station?" 有人可能會(huì)問(wèn):“到火車站有幾個(gè)街區(qū)?”
You could say, "It is four blocks from here," meaning you have to walk four streets to get there. 你可以說(shuō):“離這里有四個(gè)街區(qū)。”也就是你必須走四條街才能到那里。
Lucy says that she has "a long commute, but" she looks "around every morning", 露西說(shuō)她的“通勤時(shí)間很長(zhǎng)”，但是她“每天早上都環(huán)顧四周”，
she looks at the other people, and she sees that she is "not the only one who has to do it," meaning there are many people who have to commute a long distance. 她看著其他人，她看到“并不是只有”她“自己需要這么長(zhǎng)時(shí)間”，這意味著有很多人需要走很遠(yuǎn)才能到工作單位。
Some companies now allow their employees to telecommute. 一些公司現(xiàn)在允許員工遠(yuǎn)程辦公。
Telecommute, "telecommute," (one word) means that you work at home but you call the office to talk to people. 遠(yuǎn)程辦公，(telecommute)是指在家里工作，但需要打電話給辦公室與人交流。
