That’s My Son

It’s every airplane passenger’s nightmare—getting stuck near a crying baby. I was manning the ticket counter at a busy airport when the sound of a crying infant filled the air. As the next passenger stepped up to the desk, he glanced at the tot and rolled his eyes. “Don’t worry,” I said to him cheerily. “Chances are that baby won’t be on your flight.” Head shaking, he grimly replied, “Oh, bet he will. That’s my son.”

如果乘飛機(jī)的時候坐在啼哭的孩子附近，那簡直就是一場噩夢。當(dāng)我在一個繁忙的機(jī)場頂班幫助檢票的時候，有一陣嬰兒的哭鬧聲傳過來。下一個乘客走到柜臺跟前，看了一眼娃娃，把眼睛轉(zhuǎn)過去。我安慰他說：“別擔(dān)心，很有可能這孩子不和你坐同一班飛機(jī)。”他搖搖頭，無可奈何地說：“他肯定要和我坐同一班飛機(jī)。他是我的兒子”

【詞匯講解】

1.nightmare噩夢。還可以指“可怕的經(jīng)歷”：The hurricane was a long nightmare.這次颶風(fēng)令人擔(dān)驚受怕了很久。

2.stuck陷入，困于。也可以指“開始起勁地做某事”： Here’s your food. Now get stuck in.這是分給你的，快吃吧。

3.man操縱。也有“使振作”的意思：Man yourself for dangers ahead.鼓起勇氣, 應(yīng)付當(dāng)前危機(jī)。

4.step up走上前去。也有“加快速度”的意思： The girl stepped up to school.女孩子加快步伐去上學(xué)。

6.bet斷定。I bet that it will snow tomorrow.我敢說明天一定會下雪。
