Directly from America
Not long after an old Chinese woman came back to China from her visit to her daughter in the States, she went to a city bank to deposit the US dollars her daughter gave her. At the bank counter, the clerk checked each note carefully to see if the money was real. It made the old lady out of patience.
At last she could not hold any more, uttering. "Trust me, Sir, and trust the money. They are real US dollars. They are directly from America."

一位中國老婦人在美國看望女兒回來不久,到一家市銀行存女兒送給她的美元。在銀行柜臺,銀行職員認真檢查了每一張鈔票,看是否有假。

詞匯講解】
1.deposit存入。He's deposited quite a lot of money recently.他最近存了不少錢。還有“放下”的意思:He deposited the books on the desk.他把書放在桌子上。也可以指“交付”:He deposited his returned books with the librarian.他把歸還的書交給圖書管理員。
2.counter柜臺。counter也可以作動詞,是“對抗,反駁”的意思:Our theory countered his.我們的理論和他的相反。She countered that her advice had not been heeded.她反駁說她的建議未被重視。
3.out of在文中的意思是“缺少,用光”。還有“來源于”的意思:A figure appeared out of the darkness.黑暗中冒出一個人影來。
