If it is possible, imagine the effect upon the beholder:

不妨想想旁觀者的內(nèi)心震撼，

this precipice of ice, with tremendous cracking, is falling toward us with a majestic and awful motion.

那懸崖峭壁的冰山上端，訇然巨響紛紛炸裂，在我們眼前上演著氣勢(shì)恢弘的一幕冰川雪崩，令人驚悚不已。

Down sinks the long water line into the black deep;

長(zhǎng)長(zhǎng)水流落進(jìn)黑黝黝的海水，

down go the porcelain crags and galleries of glassy sculpture—a speechless and awful baptism.

瓷玉般峭壁和琉璃冰雕不住地直瀉而下，那是大自然恐怖無(wú)言的隆重洗禮。

Now it pauses, and returns: up rise sculptures and crags streaming with the shining white brine;

頃刻間崩塌停止，繼而又周轉(zhuǎn)復(fù)始，伴隨炫目泛光的粼粼海水；

up comes the great encircling line, followed by things new and strange—crags, niches, balconies, and caves;

龐大無(wú)比的冰川輪廓再度隆起，隨即噴涌而出新一輪精靈古怪的冰雕峭壁，有佛龕，有露臺(tái)，有洞穴，

up, up, it rises, higher and higher still, crossing the very breast of the grand ice, and all bathed with rivulets of gleaming foam.

向上，向上，不停地向上，愈升愈高，在壯闊無(wú)比的冰川上縱橫交錯(cuò)，通體沐浴在美侖美奐的滾動(dòng)晶瑩中。

Over goes the summit, ridge, pinnacles, and all, standing off obliquely in the opposite air.

山峰過(guò)了，山脊過(guò)了，山巔亦過(guò)了，所有山體在撲面而來(lái)的風(fēng)中歪扭著漸移漸遠(yuǎn)。

Now it pauses in its upward roll: back it comes again, cracking, cracking, cracking,

此刻冰川又一次停止凌空翻卷，旋即又崩裂、乍裂、再崩裂，

"groaning out harsh thunder" as it comes, and threatening to burst, like a mighty bomb, into millions of glittering fragments.

轟鳴的嘆息裹雜刺耳雷吼，經(jīng)久不停，錯(cuò)落不息，宛如威力無(wú)比的炮彈砰然引爆，撒下數(shù)以百萬(wàn)計(jì)金光搖曳的碎片。

The spectacle is terrific and magnificent. Emotion is irrepressible, and peals of wild hurrah burst forth from all.

那一幕幕勾魂動(dòng)魄的恐懼，演繹出遼闊壯觀的自然奇跡。我們無(wú)法抑制情感，迸發(fā)出一聲聲呼天長(zhǎng)嘯，在極地的遼闊長(zhǎng)空久久回旋。
