我們和好友經(jīng)常到各自家中坐坐，走往走往。既可以增進(jìn)感情，又可以消除寂寞感。初次登門，當(dāng)然是受到熱情款待，那么走往多了，天天都到人家家中去，作為主人這方的就會(huì)起厭煩之感。因此，就有這么一句話：“親戚遠(yuǎn)來(lái)香，?？驮饫溆?。”今天我就要教您一招說(shuō)這樣的“拜訪”。
我們就先來(lái)聽下面的2個(gè)例子：
例句-1：Tom visited the Smiths so often that he worn out his welcome.
例句-2：At about midnight I decided I had worn out my welcome, so I went home.
接招：在剛才我們聽到的2個(gè)例句中都用到了同一個(gè)詞語(yǔ)：worn out one's welcome，worn是動(dòng)詞wear的過(guò)去式，因此這個(gè)短語(yǔ)是wear out one's welcome。短語(yǔ)中的wear out是使......精疲力盡，耗盡的意思。例如：She' s worn out after a long hard day. 累了整整一天，她筋疲力盡了。His patience was worn out.他已忍耐不住了。Wear out one's welcome這個(gè)習(xí)語(yǔ)從字面意思看就是：耗盡某人的熱情而使別人對(duì)你的歡迎程度削減，使得別人招待你都招待得精疲力盡了而不愿意接待你了，意即：訪客到別人家呆的太久或過(guò)于頻繁來(lái)訪(而使得主人產(chǎn)生厭煩之感)，其英文解釋是這樣的：to stay too long (at an event to which one has been invited); to visit somewhere too often。
