LESSON 17 The horse

第十七課 馬

The horse is a noble, useful animal. He is gentle, and willing to work. He is not made to destroy or to hurt, but to be of use to man. He never takes the life of any other creature for his food; for he feeds on grass, hay, and corn.

馬是一種高尚的益獸。他很溫和，樂于工作。他不會(huì)消滅或傷害人類，而是為人類所用。他不會(huì)為了食物去殺害其他動(dòng)物；因?yàn)樗磕敛?、干草和玉米為食?/p>

You have seen that he cannot defend himself against the fierce wolf. He can run away, but the wolf can run too; and many fearful tales are told of the races for life between the horse and the hungry wolf.

你已經(jīng)看見了，他不能保護(hù)自己，抵抗兇猛的狼。他能跑遠(yuǎn)，但狼也會(huì)跑；很多可怕的故事講述了馬和狼之間為了生存展開的競(jìng)賽。

The horse loves his master, and soon learns to know him. A story is told of a soldier who had a favourite horse, that never seemed so happy as when his master was on his back. Then he was all life, and full of spirit.

馬愛他的主人，并且不久就會(huì)學(xué)著去認(rèn)識(shí)他。有關(guān)于一名軍人的故事，他有一匹最愛的馬兒，當(dāng)主人騎在他背上時(shí)，他看起來從未如此高興。然后他充滿了激情。

At last, in a fierce battle, the soldier was killed, and fell from his horse. When his body was found some days afterwards, the faithful animal was still standing beside it!

最后，在一場(chǎng)激戰(zhàn)中，軍人死了，從他的馬上摔了下來。很多天后他的尸體被找到時(shí)，這個(gè)忠誠(chéng)的動(dòng)物依然站立在他旁邊。

During that long time, the horse had never left the body of his master. Without food or water, he had stood over it, driving away the birds of prey. Was he not a noble animal?

在那很長(zhǎng)一段時(shí)間內(nèi)，這匹馬從未離開他主人的身體。沒有食物和水，他就站立在那兒，趕走猛禽。難道他不是高尚的動(dòng)物嗎？
