Polish Artist Turns An Ordinary Tram Stop Into A Beautiful Flower Museum

We all know how plain and boring the concrete jungle can be, with only stoplights and flashy business logos bringing any sort of color to the dull greys of the streets. And you’re lucky if your end of the city has a park or two, as not everyone is as lucky. Drawn by a need to bring nature back to the concrete of the city, one Polish artist decided to launch a colorful project that would give a splash of color to an otherwise plain background.

Bored Panda has contacted the artist for additional information. “ I am an art student of third year of bachelor degree at Academy of Fine Arts in ?ód?,” Dominika Cebula introduced herself. “My main hobby is art but I also like to surround myself with house plants as I feel better around nature”.

When asked what or who inspired her to create, Dominika revealed that she has many sources of inspiration, including the city she lives in. “?ód? seems to be very grey and sad at first sight but it’s also very unique,” the artist explained. “It’s very pro artistic city and a lot of things happens here, lots of street art and festivals”.

Instead of hanging paper brochures or advertisements, the young artist decided to switch it up and decorate a local tram stop with a variety of dried flowers. From roses to ferns, Cebula took hundreds of plants dried the and encased them in blocks of glass that were then put up at a tram stop at Dabrowskiego Square in ?ód?.

“I felt inspired by a sentimental meaning of giving flowers to someone, meaning of flowers in our culture and their presence at all the important moments in our lives,” Dominika elaborated when asked about the inspiration behind this project. “Also, I feel modern cities lack nature. I’d like to introduce more colors and flowers because people feel more calm around nature,” she elaborated.

This colorful project is titled “Nostalgia” and draws inspiration from a local flower market at the same square where the installation is exhibited. The flowers used for the project arr preserved with epoxy resin to ensure their longevity so other people could enjoy them longer.

We inquired how did people respond to such a colorful project and Dominika revealed that she was happy people were positive about it. “They tend to make photos of the installation and I heard a lot of compliments,” she explained.

The artist started this project back in summer, when all the flowers were at peak blooming season. At the beginning of July, Cebula gathered most of the flowers to prepare them for the project, which was finalized at the end of August.
