Explore Hunza Valley: The Switzerland of Pakistan

The Hunza Valley is located in northern Pakistan, an enchanting region that is completely different from the rest of the country.

Hunza belongs to the Gilgit-Baltistan Autonomous Region. Some say Gilgit-Baltistan is no longer autonomous and therefore part of Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa district. But let's ignore politics.

Discover the exotic Hunza Valley, Pakistan

In the Hunza Valley, you'll find the most enchanting landscapes in Pakistan. Hunza is the "Switzerland of Pakistan", locals always say. Snow print on the background of every landscape you visit. But the weather in Hunza Valley changes drastically during the cold months. Avoid traveling to Hunza Valley in winter, unless snow and freezing temperatures are what you are looking for.

Religion in Hunza Valley

Unlike the rest of Pakistan, the people of Hunza Valley follow another branch of Islam, Ismaili. This branch is less conservative, traveling with other women, driving or working

For this and other reasons, many dare say the literacy rate in Hunza Valley is 100%. Nothing has been verified yet, but if you visit the classrooms you will find boys and girls studying together, which is not possible in other parts of Pakistan.

Hunza Valley Tourism

It's no surprise that Hunza Valley is quite famous. Pakistanis often take advantage of the holidays to travel to Hunza Valley. Every corner is beautiful, so there doesn't seem to be enough time to explore all in one trip.

So how many days should I stay in Hunza Valley? The answer is at least 5 days. With that much time, you can enjoy major tourist attractions as well as lesser known ones, while at the same time wander through villages, talking with kind-hearted villagers who are always on hand. Enjoy a cup of tea, watch a volleyball match in the main square in one of the villages and soak up the rhythm of one of Pakistan's most pleasant regions.

Visiting Lake Attabad

This turquoise lake is one of the main attractions of the Hunza Valley, and one of the most beautiful in Pakistan. However, the beauty of the lake comes from 10 years ago, when a landslide occurred in 2010 flooded the entire area.

The aftermath of the natural disaster left thousands homeless and thousands more completely out of touch with the rest of the country, as flooding affected the only accessible route to Hunza.

For many years, the locals had to travel by boat and survive with the assistance of the Pakistani and Chinese troops.

Climb on to Eagle's Nest Hunza

Eagles's Nest Hunza is an observation spot with breathtaking views over the Hunza Valley, located atop Duiker Hill. You can drive to the parking lot near the hotel of the same name - it's easy to park there - and climb to the top of the mountain in no more than 10 minutes.

You can climb Eagles's Nest at any time. The reflection of the sun's rays in the mountains changes your view of the landscape depending on the time of the day. However, if you don't have a lot of time and have to choose a specific time to go there, you should climb up there to watch the sunset.

Cross the most dangerous bridge in the world

Hunza also has one of the most dangerous bridges in the world, the Hussaini Bridge.

This hovering bridge - hung high above a rather ferocious river - scared many with its precarious appearance. Therefore, it is not always possible for tourists to cross. But many locals come and go from side to side of the river, almost unconcerned that the bridge appears to be about to fail.
