威廉·巴特勒·葉芝(William Butler Yeats),愛爾蘭詩人、劇作家,著名的神秘主義者。葉芝是“愛爾蘭文藝復(fù)興運動”的領(lǐng)袖,也是艾比劇院(Abbey Theatre)的創(chuàng)建者之一。1865年6月13日出生于都柏林。曾在都柏林大都會美術(shù)學(xué)院學(xué)習(xí)繪畫,1887年開始專門從事詩歌創(chuàng)作,被詩人艾略特譽(yù)為“當(dāng)代最偉大的詩人”。
這首詩也被譯為《莎莉花園》,在時態(tài)的運用上也有獨特之處。全詩除了最后半行用現(xiàn)在時態(tài)以外都是過去時態(tài)。這說明過去對人們的現(xiàn)在具有十分重要的意義。在詩的最后,詩人用一般現(xiàn)在時是意味深長的。雖然對現(xiàn)在情況的描述只有五個詞便戛然而止,但是,由于詩人把這幾個詞放在全詩最突出的位置,所以給人意猶未盡的感覺。這首貌似簡單的詩,卻向人們揭示了生活的哲理:對待愛情和生活,人們應(yīng)當(dāng)順其自然,就像“綠葉長在樹枝上”,“青草長在河堰上”。不然,會因為一時的“愚蠢”而遺恨終生。
