四個(gè)短語趣說walk

這兩天，各國媒體都在熱炒克林頓女兒大婚的消息。我們知道在英文里結(jié)婚的說法有很多，其中就有walk down the aisle這個(gè)短語。今天，我們就由此舉一反三，來說說關(guān)于walk的四個(gè)短語。

1. To walk down the aisle 結(jié)婚

西方人結(jié)婚一般都要在教堂里舉行婚禮。在舉行婚禮時(shí)，新娘穿著白色的禮服，挽著自己的父親，隨著結(jié)婚進(jìn)行曲從教堂入口一直走到主持婚禮的牧師面前。因此，to walk down the aisle就是“結(jié)婚”的意思。

Chelsea Clinton walked down the aisle this past Saturday to get married to her longtime boyfriend Marc Mezvinsky, wearing a custom-made Vera Wang wedding dress.

2. To walk the plank 被解雇

Plank就是很厚的木板。據(jù)說，過去海盜攔截船只后會(huì)逼迫沒有利用價(jià)值的人們走到一塊木板上，然后將他們推進(jìn)海里。To walk the plank的說法由此得來，現(xiàn)在多指“被除名”。

When you take over the store, think twice about making the manager walk the plank. It may not be easy to find another one as honest and efficient as he is.

你接管店鋪的時(shí)候，解雇經(jīng)理這個(gè)問題要三思而行。因?yàn)橐乙粋€(gè)像他那樣老實(shí)又有效率的經(jīng)理恐怕不是那么容易的。

3. To walk on air 洋洋得意

在形容一個(gè)人很高興，很得意的時(shí)候，中文經(jīng)常說這個(gè)人走路輕飄飄，好像騰云駕霧一樣。英文里也有類似的說法，就是to walk on air。

Susan has been walking on air ever since she got the official letter that she's been accepted as a graduate student at the University of California.

蘇珊收到加州大學(xué)正式通知書錄取她為研究生以后，她就一直很得意洋洋的。

4. To walk the floor 心神不寧

My roommate has been walking the floor for weeks trying to decide whether to ask his girl friend to marry him. He loves her, but he's not sure he's ready to settle down and have a family.

我同屋近幾個(gè)星期都一直心神不寧的，他在考慮到底要不要向他女朋友求婚。他很愛她，但是他自己也不清楚他現(xiàn)在是否做好了安家立業(yè)的準(zhǔn)備。
