Before it peeps into the bowers,
The moon shines first in the Vale of Flowers.
Not that in my study I see no moonlight,
But that a grove of bamboos keeps it out of sight.
It’s only the thirteenth day tonight,
The moon is already jade-white.
If you want to see it shed silver rays,
Come on the fifteenth and sixteenth days.
