2. Cheap Boyfriend 吝嗇男友

BACKGROUND 背景

A cheap guy is avoiding his girlfriend on campus because he lied to her.
一個(gè)小氣鬼正在校園里躲避他的女友,因?yàn)樗麑?duì)她撒了謊。


A: How’s it going?
進(jìn)行得怎么樣?

B: Not too bad. How are things going with you?
不錯(cuò)。你的呢?

A: Great, just great. Hey, could you do me a favor? Will you keep an eye on my books? I’ll be back in five minutes.
很好,非常順利。嘿,你可不可以幫我一個(gè)忙?你能不能幫我照看一下這些書?我五分鐘后就回來。

B: Where are you going? Are you up to something? You look as though you are.
你到哪兒去?你是不是在做什么壞事???看起來像做壞事似的。

A: Not really. But here comes my girlfriend. I really don’t want to her to see me.
不是。我女朋友來了,我不想讓她看見我。

B: Why not? What’s the problem? Did you have a fight?
為什么?發(fā)生什么事了?你跟她吵架了?

A: No, it’s nothing like that. She just had her heart set on seeing a movie tonight. I promised to take her. Then I discovered I didn’t have any money. I called her and said I was sick.
沒有,不是那么回事。她今晚一心想去看電影,我答應(yīng)帶她去的。但是我發(fā)現(xiàn)沒錢了,就打電話告訴她我病了。

B: Relax. She’s going out the other door. You’re safe for the time being.
別緊張,她從另外一扇門出去了。你暫時(shí)沒事了。

A: That was a close call. I’m lucky she didn’t see me. She would have really hit the roof.
真危險(xiǎn)啊。好在她沒看見我。不然,她非火冒三丈不可。

A: What are you up to?

* My wife has her heart set on a new car for her birthday, but I don’t have enough money to buy it.
我太太一心想要一輛新車作生日禮物,可是我沒有那么多錢給她買。
* I have my heart set on going abroad this year.
我今年一心想出國。
* Once you have your heart set on something, it’s difficult to settle for anything less.

* My mother hit the roof when she saw my grades.
