I went to a nice restaurant with my parents in Lyon. They were really curious to try something local but they didn't understand a thing on the menu. “Why don’t they have pictures?” they asked. In China, lots of menus have photos that illustrate the dishes, so even if you don't understand Chinese, you can still order by pointing at the most tantalizing picture.
@SupriyaG :
Now I feel the same after reading this, like if we visit some other countries I think there should be photos otherwise it would be difficult to select.
@ravina nimje:
The French are too proud about their food, so they just assume everyone knows about it.
@Perry Swift:
Now that you come to mention it, nearly all Chinese restaurants here in the UK have pictures on the menu.
@Linda DeSha:
Great idea!
@Purple_haired_teenager:
The simplicity of the Chinese menu though!!!! I would love to have that kind of menu in the U.S.
@Dee Hunter:
Not sure about China, but in Japan restaurants even have displays of plastic food to show what it would look like. You just need to point at the food you'd like.
@Jaguarundi:
I went to a restaurant in St Thomas, US Virgin Islands. Often there are visitors that don't understand the fish species listed on the menu. The restaurant's solution? Show the guest a wildlife identification card from a scuba shop.

I started "tiny eyes" comics a year ago in the hope of sharing Chinese culture through everyday life. To me, learning about other cultures has always been a fun experience, and I want to pass this feeling to people who are curious about China.
