132 Being inundated with complaints 被投訴淹沒

“Listen, McGregor,” the chairman began ominously. “The board has been inundated with complaints about your intimate relationship with that pretty assistant of yours. My intuition tells me that you are simply intoxicated with her, which is fine, as far as the two of you are concerned. Unfortunately, this situation has led to quite a bit of intrigue. This sort of thing invariably leads to trouble. ” The chairman clearly was not pleased at all.

“聽著，邁格萊格，”董事長開始說，語氣中有不吉利的意思。“董事會被有關你和你那個飄來那個助手之間的親密關系的投訴淹沒了。我的直覺告訴我，你簡直被她陶醉了，這對你們兩人而言，可視為佳話。不幸的是，這種情形導致了陰謀的產(chǎn)生。這種事情總是造成麻煩。”顯然，董事長一點都不高興。

“ I don’t wish to commit any unnecessary intrusion into your private affairs,” the chairman continued, “ but, I believe, you should be a little bit more introspective and consider the intrinsic damage your actions are causing the Institute.”

“我不希望對你的私事造成不必要的干擾。”董事長繼續(xù)說，“但是，我相信，你應該更多地自省，要考慮你的行為給協(xié)會造成的內(nèi)傷。”

“Sir, this is an unwarranted invasion of my privacy!” McGregor exclaimed angrily.

“先生，這是對我的隱私的毫無根據(jù)的侵犯!”邁格萊格生氣地大叫道。

“ Come on, McGregor, your objection is invalid! You have always been an intrepid crusader for honesty, as far as others are concerned, and I now find it intriguing that you can’t face up to your own reality. I am not interested in invading your privacy, not in the slightest. It has, however, been intimated to me by members of our supervisory board your relationship of intimacy with young Nancy will require quite and intricate solution, if further damage to the Institute is to be avoided.” The chairman went on.

“得了，邁格萊格，你的反對無效! 別人認為你一直以來是勇敢的捍衛(wèi)誠實的人，現(xiàn)在，你卻不能面對自己的實際情況，我覺得這很有趣。我對侵犯你的隱私不感興趣，一點也不。然后，監(jiān)督委員會的成員已經(jīng)暗示我，為了避免進一步對協(xié)會造成傷害，你和年輕的南茜的親密關系需要一個很復雜的解決辦法。”董事長繼續(xù)說。

McGregor sat in silence.

邁格萊格默默地坐著。

“By the way, McGregor, there are also those unresolved reports of discrepancies in the inventory under your control.” The chairman’s tone suddenly became menacing. “ If you don’t shape up and face up to reality, I shall invalidate your contract of employment. I don’t care about the hardship this would cause to your wife and children. I have become quite inured to human suffering during my time here at the Institute!”

“邁格萊格，順便說一下，還有有點，關于你控制的庫存品的報告不一致的問題仍然沒有解決。”董事長的語氣突然變成威脅的了。“如果你不好好表現(xiàn)，面對現(xiàn)實，我會讓你的勞動合同作廢。我不管這將會對你的妻子和孩子造成什么困難。我在協(xié)會工作的時間已經(jīng)讓我變得對人類的苦難很習慣了!”
