　　For a museum it truly was, in which clever hands had spared no expense to
amass3 every natural and artistic4 treasure,

　　因?yàn)檫@客廳實(shí)際上是一所博物館，一只智慧的妙手把自然界和藝術(shù)上的一切珍奇都聚在這里，

　　displaying them with the helter-skelter picturesqueness5 that distinguishes
a painter's studio.

　　Some thirty pictures by the masters, uniformly framed and separated by
gleaming panoplies6 of arms, adorned7 walls on which were stretched tapestries8
of austere9 design.

　　四周的墻壁懸掛著圖案壁毯，壁毯上點(diǎn)綴著三十來(lái)幅名畫，畫框子都是一式一樣的，每幅畫之間隔以閃閃發(fā)亮的武器飾物。
