Dear Uncle, Something terrible has happened.
親愛的叔叔,有一些煩心的事。
A mad man has moved into our house.
一個(gè)瘋子搬進(jìn)了我們的房子。
Do you remember when father died, mother decided to rent out his offices upstairs?
你還記得當(dāng)爸爸去世的時(shí)候,媽媽決定將爸爸樓上的辦公室出租出去的事么?
Well, she has done it,
哎,她已經(jīng)這么做了。
and Ludwig van Beethoven has moved in.
路德維希·范·貝多芬搬了進(jìn)來。
Every morning at dawn Mr. Beethoven begins to make his dreadful noise upstairs.
每天黎明時(shí)分,貝多芬先生就要在樓上制造那些可怕的噪音了。
Loud poundings and growlings come through the floor.
震耳欲聾的重?fù)袈?、怒吼聲穿透了地板?/p>
They are like the sounds of an injured beast.
就像是一頭受傷的野獸在奮力地咆哮著。
Mother says I mustn't blame him.
媽媽說我不能夠責(zé)怪貝多芬先生。
He's deaf and can't hear the noise he makes.
他聾了,聽不見自己制造的噪音。
But he wakes up the twins and they start their crying.
但是他把雙胞胎吵醒了,他們哭哭啼啼,
They cry all day.
鬧了一整天。
All morning Mr. Beethoven carries on this way.
每天早上貝多芬先生都是這個(gè)樣子。
After lunch he storms into the street.
晚飯過后,他如狂風(fēng)一般地沖上街頭。
Uncle, you should see him setting out for the afternoon.
叔叔,你應(yīng)該看看他下午都做些什么。
He hums to himself, he growls out tunes, he waves his arms.
他時(shí)而哼哼呀呀自言自語,時(shí)而大聲咆哮高歌,奮力地?fù)]舞著臂膀。
His pockets bulge with papers and pencils.
他的口袋塞滿了報(bào)紙、鉛筆,鼓囊囊的。
The children run and call him names.
孩子們一邊跑著,一邊叫罵著他。
Hours later he comes home.
幾個(gè)小時(shí)后,他回來了。
Sometimes he's soaked with rain.
有的時(shí)候,他渾身上下都濕透了,
He tracks mud through the hall.
滿帶泥濘地穿過門廊。
Other times he doesn't come home at all.
有時(shí)候,他卻整晚都沒有回來。
Or long after the house is quiet for the night he comes in,
或者晚上在房子處于一片寂靜后,他突然回來了。
pounding his way up the stairs above our heads.
我們在樓下聽著他砰、砰、砰地爬上樓。
Uncle, you know I have not seen you for some years, but I hope you will remember me.
叔叔,你知道我已經(jīng)很多年沒有見到你了,但是我希望你能記得我。
I beg you to tell my mother to send Mr. Beethoven away.
我求求你,告訴我媽媽讓貝多芬先生搬走吧。
