Louis was now a husband,

一.become:v. 變成,成為,變得,適合(某人),使(人)顯得漂亮

【詞義辨析】

become,get,grow,turn,go,come

become: 最普通用詞,作為連系動(dòng)詞,指從一個(gè)狀態(tài)向另一個(gè)狀態(tài)的變化。

get: 常指某人或某物有意無(wú)意地獲得引起變化的因素,結(jié)果使變成另一狀態(tài)。

grow: 常指逐漸地變成新?tīng)顟B(tài),強(qiáng)調(diào)漸變的過(guò)程。

turn: 側(cè)重指變得與原來(lái)截然不同,有時(shí)含貶義。

go: 作為連系動(dòng)詞,通常與形容詞連用,指進(jìn)入某種狀態(tài),從而發(fā)生變化,多指不好的狀態(tài)。

come: 側(cè)重變化的經(jīng)過(guò)或過(guò)程,多用于不良情況。

【例句用法】

1.The meeting began to become clamorous.

會(huì)議開(kāi)始變得喧嘩了。

2.I was pleased to see how peaceable the horse had become.

我很高興地看到這匹馬變得這么溫順。

3.Vast areas of land have become desert.

廣大的地區(qū)均已變成沙漠。

4.She has become an awful bore since she got married to him.

她自從和他結(jié)婚后,就變得令人厭煩透了。

5.You may also find that reading has become more fun than work!

你或許也會(huì)發(fā)現(xiàn)閱讀已經(jīng)變成是有趣的事,而不是工作。

二.follow:v. 跟隨,追趕,緊接著,注意,遵循,沿著,明白 n. 跟隨

【詞語(yǔ)用法】

follow可表示“在……之后”,常作及物動(dòng)詞,后面不需要再加介詞after。

The duckling followed its mother everywhere.

小鴨子們緊跟著母鴨到處走。

as follows屬于固定的習(xí)慣用語(yǔ),在以詞組形式出現(xiàn)的時(shí)候,follow不可以單數(shù)形式出現(xiàn),不管句子主語(yǔ)是單數(shù)或復(fù)數(shù),只可以as follows的形式出現(xiàn)。

規(guī)則如下。

follow后的介詞如upon有時(shí)可省略。

A strange thing followed upon the incident.

這個(gè)事件后跟著出了很奇怪的事情。

(as) in the following同as follows一樣都屬于固定搭配,兩者不可混用,如不可隨意更改成as following或inthe follows;

the following可同時(shí)作單數(shù)或者復(fù)數(shù),隨句子的意思而改變。

The following is my full name.

The following are our full names.

following有時(shí)以介詞形式出現(xiàn),常見(jiàn)于報(bào)紙上。

Following the ceremony a reception was held.

在典禮之后,會(huì)舉行一場(chǎng)招待會(huì)。

要注意,follow后不能接賓語(yǔ)和不定式的結(jié)構(gòu)。

I followed him to go into the house.

這種說(shuō)法是不可以的。應(yīng)改成I followed him into the house。

【錯(cuò)句舉例與錯(cuò)句分析】

錯(cuò)句:The pages are all mixed up; this should follow after that.

糾正:The pages are all mixed up; this should follow that.

翻譯:這些頁(yè)全部都錯(cuò)亂了,這一頁(yè)應(yīng)該是跟在那一頁(yè)后面的。

分析:follow可表示“在……之后”,常作及物動(dòng)詞,后面不需要再加介詞after。

【例句用法】

1.The President's wife follows his every word.

總統(tǒng)夫人總是注意聽(tīng)他說(shuō)的話。
