【詞義辨析】

disaster, calamity, catastrophe, misfortune

這些名詞均表示“災(zāi)難”或“不幸”之意。

disaster普通用詞，指大破壞、痛苦或傷亡。

calamity多指?jìng)€(gè)人的不幸，比disaster嚴(yán)重，強(qiáng)調(diào)災(zāi)難引起的悲痛以及對(duì)于損失的感覺(jué)。

catastrophe語(yǔ)氣最強(qiáng)，指可怕的災(zāi)難，強(qiáng)調(diào)最終的結(jié)局。

instead一般與of連用作為介詞詞組，后面可接名詞和代詞意外的詞，如形容詞，副詞，動(dòng)詞和介詞。

He walks slowly instead of quickly.

That increased instead of decreased our anxiety.

He laughed with instead of at us.

注意instead of和without的區(qū)別，兩者不要混用。一般情況下，用人，事，行為去代替另外的人，事，或行為時(shí)，用instead of。

I'll have tea instead of coffee, please.

我要喝茶而不是咖啡，謝謝。

表示人，事，行為不和其他的一起時(shí)，用without。

She often goes swimming without telling her mother.

instead 可以是形容詞，一般放于句首或句尾。

錯(cuò)句: I stayed in bed all day instead to go to work.

訂正: I stayed in bed all day instead of going to work.

分析: instead不單獨(dú)作介詞，常以instead of形式出現(xiàn)，后加動(dòng)名詞。
