President Xi Jinping has told the thousand gathered for the start of the communist party congress that China should take center stage in the world and work to build a great power. The address provides policy clues for the direction of China. Mr Xi asserted he is confident in communist ideology, saying he will not copy foreign political systems.

Speaking to the BBC from New York, Roselyn Akombe said while in Kenya, she received numerous threats.The main opposition candidate Raila Odinga pulled out the poll re-run, saying he did not believe a fair vote could be held.
