Jobs: Well, you know, all I can say is that our Macintosh computer sales are growing at—you know, three to four times the rate of the rest of the industry. And—we continue to be the leader in innovation. I think everybody’s copying us. So—you know, we're working really hard to make the best personal computers in the world. And we’re working very hard to make the best po! J)Ie digital music players in the world. And I would say that in the mind of everyone in Apple, both are very important to us.

喬布斯：你知道，我能說的是，我們的Mac計算機的銷售速度是同行業(yè)其他計算機銷售速度的三四倍，我們在創(chuàng)新方面仍然是領(lǐng)導(dǎo)者，我想其他的一些創(chuàng)新都是拷貝我們的，所以在制造個人電腦方面，我們真的很努力想要造出世界上最好的計算機。我們也在非常努力的生產(chǎn)世界上最好的便攜式數(shù)字音樂播放器。我想在蘋果公司每個人的心中，這兩個產(chǎn)品對于我們來說都是很重要的。

Reporter: Do you see a time when a version of the iPod will become more important to Apple than the Mac itself?

記者：您能夠預(yù)想未來有一天，對于蘋果公司來說，iPod的某一項產(chǎn)品會比Mac變得更重要嗎?

Jobs: Well, Apple has a core set of talents, and those talents are: We do, I think, very good hardware design; we do very good industrial design; and we write very good system and application software. And we，re really good at packaging that all together into a product. We’re the only people Left in the computer industry that do that. And we’re really the only people in the consumer ~electronics industry that go deep in soReporterware in consumer products. So those talents can be used to make personal computers, and they can also be used to make things like iPods. And we’re doing both, and we’ll find out what the future holds.

喬布斯：蘋果公司有很多核心人才。通過這些人才，我們可以進行非常好的硬件設(shè)計和工業(yè)設(shè)計，我們也能夠設(shè)計很好的系統(tǒng)軟件和應(yīng)用軟件。我們也非常擯長將這些結(jié)合起來，組成一件很好的產(chǎn)品。我們也是在計算機領(lǐng)域唯一這樣做的公司。我們是唯一在消費者電子產(chǎn)品領(lǐng)域深入研究消費者產(chǎn)品的軟件的公司。所以我們公司的人才可以制造出很好的個人計算機，也有能力開發(fā)出像 iPod這樣優(yōu)秀的產(chǎn)品。我們同時在這兩方面都做得很好，我們也能夠知道未來到底需要怎樣的產(chǎn)品。

Reporter: You’re well—known as being a technological optimist. Do you still feel as hopeful about what technology has done for us as a culture as you did, say, twenty years ago?

記者：眾所周知，您是一位技術(shù)樂觀主義者。您現(xiàn)在與20年之前對于技術(shù)發(fā)展的看法，仍然是一樣的充滿希望嗎?

Jobs: Oh, yeah. I think it’s brought the world a lot closer together, and will continue to do that. There are downsides to everything; there are unintended consequences to everything. The most corrosive piece of technology that I’ve ever seen is called television —but then, again, television, at its best, is magnificent.

喬布斯：是的。我認(rèn)為，技術(shù)發(fā)展將我們的世界拉得更近，并且它將能夠繼續(xù)發(fā)揮這樣的作用。每件事情都會有下降趨勢及意想不到的結(jié)果。我之前所發(fā)現(xiàn)的對社會最有害的一項技術(shù)發(fā)明就是電視，但是后來，電視也成為世界上最偉大的發(fā)明之一。

Reporter: OK. One last question, Steve, and I really appreciate your time. What I want to ask is when are we going to see a video iPod in the future. What—and what are the other future developments for the iPod?

Jobs: Well, you know us. We never talk about future products. There used to be a saying at Apple: Isn’t it funny? A ship that leaks from the top. So I don’t wanna perpetuate that. So I really can’t say.

喬布斯：你了解我們公司，我們從不提前公布我們未來的產(chǎn)品。在蘋果公司流傳著一句名言，那就是：一艘船從頂部就開始漏油，那是不是很有趣呢?我不想要這句話繼續(xù)流傳下去，所以我真的不能說。
