77　ask，question，inquire和interrogate

① ask為一般用詞，表示“問(wèn)，詢問(wèn)”，期望對(duì)方給予回答，可替代question和inquire。

If you don't know the way，ask a policeman. 如果你不認(rèn)得路，就問(wèn)警察。

She asked me what time it was. 她問(wèn)我?guī)c(diǎn)鐘了。

② question表示“提問(wèn)，詢問(wèn)”，常指在教學(xué)或探索問(wèn)題的過(guò)程中多次提出問(wèn)題；question也可表示“審問(wèn)，盤(pán)問(wèn)，質(zhì)疑”。

He questioned his students on some problems in maths. 他向?qū)W生們問(wèn)了一些數(shù)學(xué)問(wèn)題。

The police questioned him about what he had done. 警察詢問(wèn)他干了些什么。

③ inquire是較正式用語(yǔ)，指深入打聽(tīng)某事或詢問(wèn)某事的實(shí)際情況。

He inquired into the case. 他調(diào)查了那個(gè)案件。

She inquired what time the train would leave. 她詢問(wèn)火車(chē)何時(shí)開(kāi)出。

④ interrogate表示“訊問(wèn)，審問(wèn)”，正式而又系統(tǒng)性強(qiáng)。

The judge interrogated the criminal. 法官審問(wèn)了罪犯。

inquire after意同ask about，表示“問(wèn)起，問(wèn)到”。

She inquired after your mother. 她問(wèn)起你母親。
