【注釋】19世紀(jì)末，美國民間興起了禁酒運(yùn)動(temperance movement) 0當(dāng)時(shí)發(fā)誓戒酒的人說即使酒癮難熬，也 寧愿爬到賣水車(Water wagon)上喝水，也不會破戒。 于是，on the (water) wagon (上水車)就等于“戒酒” 了。 假如敵不住酒癮，“從水車上走下來”喝酒破戒，則叫 做 go off the wagon,如：Some people go off the wagon almost as soon as they go on it.(有些人幾乎這邊才說要 戒酒，那邊就破戒了)。變體：go on the wagon。
