There are also two pairs of fins lying just behind its head, a large pair and a small pair, near the ends of the slits, where the gills or lungs of the fish are placed.

在腦袋后面還有兩對(duì)鰭, 一對(duì)比較大, 一對(duì)比較小, 就在魚鰓開口位置的末端。魚鰓相當(dāng)于人類的肺。

The sole is a common fish in the shallow waters of the English Channel. During the daytime it lies on the sand at the bottom of the sea. It is covered with small scales, and from between these comes a slime which causes some of the sand to stick to the body of the fish. Thus the big fishes which might catch and eat the sole are not able to see it.

比目魚在英吉利海峽的淺水中很常見。白天躺在海底的沙子上。比目魚全身都長(zhǎng)著特別細(xì)小的鱗, 鱗片中間能分泌出一種粘液, 把一些沙子黏在身體上, 這樣, 能把比目魚抓住吃掉的大魚就看不見它了。

At night the sole moves about, seeking for the small creatures on which it feeds. It cannot see very well, but its sense of smell is very keen; and it also feels for its prey by means of the rough skin on the lower or white side of the head.

晚上, 比目魚就到處游, 尋找小動(dòng)物當(dāng)食物。比目魚的視力不怎么樣, 但是嗅覺非常靈敏, 還能用身體的底面(頭的白色一面)粗糙的皮膚“感覺”到獵物。

Soles are not good to eat in March, for they are then laying their eggs or spawn. These tiny eggs float in the sea, and soon each egg (if it is not eaten up by fishes) produces a little sole.

三月份是比目魚的產(chǎn)卵季節(jié), 所以這時(shí)候不適合吃比目魚。比目魚細(xì)小的卵浮在海水中, 很快, 每一粒卵(如果沒有被魚吃掉)就會(huì)孵出一條小比目魚來。

The sole is caught by means of big nets, which are dragged along the bottom of the sea by ropes fastened to fishing-boats. The flesh of the sole is white, and it is very good for food.

人們是用大網(wǎng)捕撈比目魚的, 在漁船上用繩子拴上大網(wǎng), 沿著海底拖網(wǎng)。比目魚的肉是白色的, 非常好吃。
