Britain is to extend its coronavirus lockdown for at least three more weeks. The foreign secretary Dominic Raab, who is standing in for the prime minister said easing restrictions now would risk greater damage to public health and the economy. On Thursday, Britain recorded another 861 Covid-19 deaths.

Researchers say that the western United States is enduring one of the worst droughts in its history. They say while the drought itself is natural, climate change has significantly increased its severity. The dry period began 19 years ago and is making events like wildfires more dangerous.
