“謹(jǐn)言慎行，君子之道”出自《菜根譚》，《菜根譚》是元末明初道人洪應(yīng)明收集編著的一部論述修養(yǎng)、人生、處世、出世的語錄世集。本段大意：即使十句話能說對(duì)九句也未必有人稱贊你，但是假如你說錯(cuò)了一句話就會(huì)接連受人指責(zé)；即使十次計(jì)謀你有九次成功也未必歸功于你，可是其中只要有一次失敗，埋怨和責(zé)難之聲就會(huì)紛紛到來。所以君子寧肯保持沉默寡言的態(tài)度，絕不沖動(dòng)急躁，做事寧可顯得笨拙，絕對(duì)不能自作聰明顯得高人一等。

十語九中，未必稱奇，一語不中，則愆尤駢集；十謀九成，未必歸功，一謀不成，則訾議業(yè)興。君子所以寧默毋躁，守拙無巧。

If out of ten utterances, nine are correct, others will not necessarily call you a genius. They will, however, throw all the blame on you for the one utterance that provided incorrect. If you make ten plans and nine of them succeed, others will not necessarily praise you for your acumen. They will, however, excoriate you for the one plan that went wrong. Therefore, a real gentleman preserves his silence and eschews rash action, and prefers to seem stupid rather than wise.（保羅·懷特 譯）

You will not necessarily be praised for your prophetic vision even if nice of your ten remarks turn out to be correct. But once you make one incorrect remark, you will be universally condemned. By the same token, you will not necessarily be commended for your brilliance even if you mastermind ten schemes, out of which nine prove effective. But once you put up one ineffective scheme, you will have to face numerous accusing fingers.
