譯文：有個(gè)河蚌剛剛打開(kāi)曬太陽(yáng)，一只鷸飛來(lái)啄它的肉，河蚌馬上閉攏，夾住了鷸的嘴。鷸說(shuō)：“今天不下雨，明天不下雨，那就會(huì)有死蚌了?！焙影稣f(shuō)：“今天你的嘴不取出來(lái)，明天你的嘴不取出來(lái)，那就會(huì)有死鷸了?！彼鼈兌疾豢匣ハ喾艞?，漁夫看見(jiàn)了，就把它們倆一起捉走了。告誡人們：做事要懂得權(quán)衡得失，化解矛盾互相謙讓，以免顧此失彼，讓別人鉆空子。

蚌方出曝，而鷸啄其肉。蚌合而莫過(guò)甘其喙。
鷸曰：“今日不雨，明日不雨，即有死蚌！”
蚌亦謂鷸曰：“今日不出，明日不出，即有死鷸！”
兩者不肯相舍，漁者得而并禽之。

The Snipe and the Mussel
A mussel was opening its shell to bask in the sun when a snipe pecked at it. The mussel clamped down on the bird's beak, and held it fast.
"If it doesn't rain today or tomorrow," said the snipe, "there will be a dead mussel lying there."
"If you can't pry loose today or tomorrow," retorted the mussel, "there will be a dead snipe here too."
As neither of them would give way, a passing fisherman caught them both.
