1. spoon: (床上姿勢)身體成鑰形,雙方均側身,其中一方用胸部和腹部貼緊另一方的背部。spoon也可指做親吻、愛撫等親密動作。
2. go to much/a lot of trouble to do sth.: 勞心費力做某事。影片中Margaret是在說客氣話,意思是“太麻煩你了”??匆幌吕樱篐e must have gone to a lot of trouble to get this.(他一定是費了很大勁兒才拿到這個。)
3. come up with: 想出。例如:He could not come up with a proper answer.(他想不出一個合適的回答。)
4. sham: 騙局。Their independence was a sham. (他們的獨立是一個騙局。)sham還可以表示“虛偽,假裝”,例如:I’m a blunt straightforward man; I hate sham.(我是個耿直坦率的人,我討厭虛偽。)
5. crushed: 被壓垮,崩潰??匆幌吕樱篠he was crushed when she heard the news.(她聽到這個消息后崩潰了。)
6. work sb. up: 鼓動,激發(fā),使激動。He had worked himself up into a terrible state about the coming exam.(面對即將舉行的考試,他把自己弄得緊張極了。)
Work sth. up / work up sth.則有“逐步發(fā)展,逐步建立,逐步完成”的意思。請看例子:
I have worked up quite a thirst playing tennis.(我對打網(wǎng)球漸漸上了癮)。
I’m hoping to work up these notes into a book.(我希望把這些筆記整理成書。)
