他一個人背下了黑鍋。

left holding the bag 是相當古老的習慣用語，從1760年起就流傳了，但沒有確切出典，有一種猜測是這里的bag可能是裝贓款贓物的袋子，同伙聽到了警報都走了，就剩拿著袋子的那個人被抓，人贓俱獲。現(xiàn)在這個短語的意思是：“替別人背黑鍋，或獨自承擔錯誤和罪責”。因此，當美國人說"He has been left holding the bag."時，他/她要表達的意思就是:"He has been made into a scapegoat."、"He has been unjustly blamed."、"He has been left to take full responsibility."。
