I think I could turn and live a while with theanimals...

我想我可以和這些動物們一起住一段時間

they are so placid and self-contained,

它們是如此的溫和,自給自足

I stand and look at them sometimes half the daylong.

有時候我可以大半天站著觀察它們

They do not sweat and whine about their condition ,

他們不出汗,也不抱怨生存條件

They do not lie awake in the dark and weep for their sins.

晚上他們也不躺下休息,而是為他們的罪過而哭泣

They do not make me sick discussing their duty to God

他們向上帝陳述自己的職責(zé),這一點都不讓人討厭

Not one is dissatisfied...

沒有誰是不滿意的

not one is demented with the mania of owning things,

沒有誰因為占有欲而發(fā)狂

Not one kneels to another,nor to his kind that lived thousands of years ago.

沒有誰向誰屈尊下跪,或是盲目崇拜著他們幾年前的祖先

Not one is respectable or industrious over the whole earth

在這片大地上,沒有誰是值得尊重或勤勞刻苦的
