Undoubtedly, these students can earn some money working in big cities

However, I am of opinion that this view is myopic,

which is to the detriment of personal development

and Chinas overall growth in the long term.

Firstly, in terms of personal development,

university is not a vocational training center

despite the fact that a university diploma indicates graduates are more likely to find decent jobs.

盡管擁有大學(xué)文憑更有可能獲得體面的工作。

Instead, university is a place for personal cultivation and improvement.

相反大學(xué)是個(gè)人培養(yǎng)和發(fā)展的地方。

In universities, students will learn to find their real interests,

在大學(xué)里學(xué)生可以尋找到自己真正的興趣

perfect their personality,and form right outlooks toward the world.

完善個(gè)人品質(zhì)樹立正確的世界觀。

Furthermore, students will learn to gather, analyze, and evaluate information

此外學(xué)生將會(huì)學(xué)習(xí)到如何收集、分析以及評(píng)估信息

so that they can resolve problems in their lives.

這樣學(xué)生才能夠解決生活中的問題。

For those who are suspicious of the value of higher learning to some extent,

對(duì)于那些在某種程度上懷疑高等教育的人們來說

they can be regarded as plutolatry.

我們可以把他們視為拜金主義。

They worship money and believe that money is everything in their lives.

他們崇拜金錢并相信金錢對(duì)他們意味著所有的事情。

Secondly, in terms of national growth,

the advancement of a nation is characterized by its greatness of high education.

國家的進(jìn)步是表現(xiàn)在高等教育的發(fā)展之上的。

In this sense, universities are the centers of research and academic exploration.

從這一方面講大學(xué)是研究和學(xué)術(shù)探索的中心。

Take the United States for instance.

就美國為例

Among the top 100 universities in the world,

the majority of them are located in the United States.

絕大部分都來自美國。

The advancement of US high education is indicative of the fact that

美國高等教育的先進(jìn)指明

those universities produce the most Nobel Prize laureates in comparison with other countries.

相比于其他國家這些大學(xué)產(chǎn)生了最多的諾貝爾獎(jiǎng)獲得者。

American universities also turn out to be a magnet for most smart students around the world.

美國大學(xué)也成為了吸引全世界人才的磁場。

Those universities contribute tremendous share to the US growth through scientific and technological support.

美國的發(fā)展絕大部分都來源于大學(xué)在技術(shù)和科技方面的支持。

In China, if the belief that receiving college education is a waste of time

在中國如果認(rèn)為接受高等教育是一種浪費(fèi)時(shí)間的話

and money can not be corrected in time,

我們的金錢觀也就不會(huì)得到更正

it is inevitable that China can only reap short-term GDP growth

-中國的國民人均生產(chǎn)總值將不會(huì)有著長遠(yuǎn)的發(fā)展

but will be deprived of opportunity to become a competitive international players in the long run,

for the human resource will be drained eventually.

In sum,receiving college education will benefit both individual and the country.

最后不管從個(gè)人還是國家接受高等教育都是受益的。

Indicative of the dire job market for college graduates is not the uselessness of college education.

應(yīng)屆生就業(yè)市場的不景氣不能夠說明接受高等教育是無用的。

Instead, college education means we should study harder to make a full preparation for the future.

相反高等教育意味著我們更應(yīng)該努力學(xué)習(xí)為未來做好準(zhǔn)備。
